*Studio nerd post*
On the 5th March, i’m heading back out to NY for another month to work with my friends Ollie Hammett and Dan Romer. Dan’s worked with Ingrid Michaelson and Jenny Owens Youngs so i’m really looking forward to seeing how he approaches his productions.
When I get back in April, i’m going to be opening my own studio in Castleford. It’s on the Chairworks complex, which means I get to use their awesome mic collection (Neumann, AKG, AEA etc…) and their floating pre rack (4 UA, 2 API, 2 Tubetech <3 <3 ) . Initally, I was going to buy an Apogee Ensemble to handle my AD/DA needs, but the studio owner says he has a Prism Orpheus (big leagues ADDA, sounds incredible) that he needs to get rid of, so it looks like i’m going to be getting a great deal on that.
I get my student loan halfway through April too, so I think I’m going to invest in an Audient ASP008. They’re clean as hell, and i’ve had a great experience with these, as well as the Zen desk (fairly certain they’re the same pres). And i’ve got my Burl to cover any colour i’d like to add (until I get my hands on some Avedis or API pres, that is).

The studio space isn’t huge, but it’s more than enough to get a cool drum sound. It’s very live, so i might invest in some baffles to surround the kit too. The only issue is that the glass panes between the control room and live space cause a standing wave at around 65/130hz, if any acoustics experts follow me. How should I go about fixing this? It looks like I might just have to buy a thicker pane of glass for one side.
